The Maharashtra State Board of Sahitya and Sanskriti undertook the Marathi Encyclopedia Project for the development of Marathi language by declaring it as the official language. On The Independent Maharashtra State Marathi Encyclopedia Production Board was established on December 1, 1980 for the editing and publication of the Marathi encyclopedia.

This encyclopedia board has published 22 Khand of Marathi Language Encyclopedia till date and new editions are being published continuously. Marathi is one of the few languages ​​in the world where encyclopedias have been created. These 22 Khand of the encyclopedia were previously in print. Over time, they needed to be digitized and brought online. At first, this work was done by ‘CEDAC’ but in doing so many mistakes were made so that this huge treasure trove of 18,000 articles did not reach the people. After that Hon. Dilip Karambalekar when was the president of the encyclopedia, the responsibility of this web portal of the encyclopedia was given to Ananya MultiTech. Ananya MultiTech has successfully compiled these 18,000 articles spread across 22 Khand and created a Marathi Encyclopedia website. In addition, the encyclopedia is not a one-time editing subject, but a permanent process. Ananya MultiTech designed the crowd source website of the Marathi encyclopedia for the encyclopedia of such a permanent encyclopedia. At the same time, Kumar created a separate section of the encyclopedia. In this section, expert writers from Marathi are constantly adding articles on various subjects. मराठी भाषा ही राजभाषा म्हणून जाहीर करून त्या भाषेचा विकास व्हावा याकरिता महाराष्ट्र राज्य साहित्य आणि संस्कृती मंडळाने मराठी विश्वकोश प्रकल्प हाती घेतला. दि. १ डिसेंबर १९८० रोजी मराठी विश्वकोशाच्या संपादन आणि प्रकाशन कार्यासाठी ‘स्वतंत्र महाराष्ट्र राज्य मराठी विश्वकोश निर्मिती मंडळा’ची स्थापना करण्यात आली.

सदर विश्वकोश मंडळाने आजवर मराठी भाषेतील विश्वकोशाचे 22 खंड प्रकाशित केले असून त्याच्या नवनवीन आवृत्त्या सातत्याने प्रकाशित होत असतात. जगभरातील अत्यंत कमी भाषांमध्ये विश्वकोश निर्मितीचे काम केले गेले मराठी ही त्यांपैकीच एक भाषा आहे. विश्वकोशाचे हे 22 खंड पुर्वी प्रिंट स्वरुपात होते. कालांतराने त्यांना डिजिटल स्वरुपात बनवून ऑनलाइन आणण्याची गरज होती. सर्वप्रथम हे काम ‘सीडॅक’ ने केले पण हे कामकरतानाअनेक प्रकारच्या चुका राहून गेल्या जेणे करुन 18 हजार लेखांचा  हा माहितीचा मोठा खजिना लोकांपर्यंत पोहचतच नव्हता. त्यानंतर मा. दिलीप करंबळेकर हे विश्वकोशाचे अध्यक्ष असताना विश्वकोसाच्या सदर वेबपोर्टलची जबाबदारी अनन्या मल्टिटेककडे देण्यात आली. अनन्या मल्टिटेकने 22 खंडांमध्ये विखुरलेले या 18 हजार लेखांचे यशस्वी एकत्रिकरण करुन मराठी विश्वकोशाची वेबसाइट तयाार केली. याव्यतिरिक्त विश्वकोश हा एकदाच संपादित करुन होणारा विषय नाही, तर कायमस्वरुपी चालणारी प्रक्रीया आहे. अशा प्रकारच्या  कायम स्वरुपी चालणाऱ्या विश्वकोशामधल्या ज्ञानयज्ञेसाठी अनन्या मल्टिटेकने मराठी विश्वकोशाच्या क्राउड सोर्स वेबसाइटची रचना केली. त्याचबरोबर कुमार विश्वकोशाचा वेगळा विभाग तयार केला. या विभागामध्ये सातत्याने मराठी मधले तज्ञलेखक विविध विषयांच्या लेखांची भर टाकत असतात. हे सर्व काम 100 % ऑनलाइन चालते.
